You need a permit. Most foreign employees do. A work permit (Vietnamese: giấy phép lao động) makes the job lawful — check the roles and the 24 + 24 cycle in who qualifies.

Common questions

How long can one work-permit cycle run?

Maximum 24 months, renewed once for up to 24 months — a 48-month cycle at law level — then a fresh issue is required (BLLĐ Điều 155).

What experience does an expert need?

University degree plus at least 2 years’ matching experience generally; priority fields can qualify with 1 year and a matching degree — NĐ 219 Điều 3 khoản 3.

What happens if I quit my job?

The permit dies when the employment contract ends. The employer must return the permit within 15 days. The issuer notifies Immigration on administrative revoke. The sponsor must notify Immigration in writing when sponsorship ends and coordinate an exit request (Điều 45.2.e). Immigration Law does not publish a day-count for how long the LĐ TRC lasts after that.

When must the employer file?

New issue: between 10 and 60 days before the planned start date. Renewal: between 10 and 45 days before expiry. Outside that window, the dossier can be refused.

Which exemptions are published here?

There isn’t one in NĐ 219. Fees are set by each province’s people’s council. We do not invent a national figure.

Common questions

How long can one work-permit cycle run?

Maximum 24 months, renewed once for up to 24 months — a 48-month cycle at law level — then a fresh issue is required (BLLĐ Điều 155).

What experience does an expert need?

University degree plus at least 2 years’ matching experience generally; priority fields can qualify with 1 year and a matching degree — NĐ 219 Điều 3 khoản 3.

What happens if I quit my job?

When must the employer file?

New issue: between 10 and 60 days before the planned start date. Renewal: between 10 and 45 days before expiry. Outside that window, the dossier can be refused.
