What people actually do

Engineers, construction superintendents, HSE, marine, and project managers rotate through Vũng Tàu and related yards. Service companies and JV operators hire. Recruiters place contractors. That is the same foreign-worker stack as other FDI sites — see also FDI / plant.

Labour stack

Foreign workers generally need a work permit (yes). Positions: manager, executive, expert, technician. Expert: 2 years years (priority 1 years). Technician training/experience limbs on the work-permit page. Authority: provincial People's Committee where the foreigner will work.

ICT: prior continuous employment 12 months — ICT deep. Short install / advise under 90 days days/year, plus tech incident under three months (yes).

Stay usually LĐ, TRC capped at 2 years. Risk without lawful labour: forced exit or deportation.

Tax and rota life

Resident worldwide (yes). Non-resident employment flat 20%. Count Vietnam days honestly on the calculator — offshore time and hotel nights still matter to the residence machine. Passport overlays: tax across borders.

Common questions

Do oil and gas expats in Vung Tau need a Vietnam work permit?
Usually yes if a Vietnam entity or Vietnam-hosted project employs you. Rotation lifestyle does not invent a separate visa. Intra-company transfer and short day-count limbs may fit some assignments.
Is offshore rotation different for tax?
Days on the ground and habitual abode still feed Vietnam residence tests. A rota does not automatically keep you non-resident. Run the calculator with real day counts.
What about offshore wind and fabrication yards?
Same employer door as oil and gas services — expert, technician, or manager limbs. Provincial issuing authority follows where you work.
