Dive instructing in Vietnam — the centre is the employer

In plain termsNha Trang, Phú Quốc, Đà Nẵng, and a handful of other sites hire foreign instructors through registered dive centres. That is the Vietnam-employer door. A tourist stamp does not become a boat roster (no).

What people actually do

Career centres train Divemasters and instructors on the coast. Working instructors are paid by a Vietnam entity — often a PADI or SSI shop attached to a resort or city shop. Seasonal peaks follow tourist calendars. The lifestyle is coastal; the labour stack is ordinary foreign-worker paper.

Opening your own dive shop is own a business (enterprise), not “PADI card + e-visa.”

Labour stack

Foreign workers generally need a work permit (yes). Instructor dossiers usually land as expert or technician depending on degree and experience letters — map to manager, executive, expert, technician, not to the plastic certification alone. Expert degree path: 2 years years matching experience. Technician paths use the training / experience limbs on the work-permit page.

Forms a and m require a written employment contract before start (yes). Stay usually LĐ2, TRC capped at 2 years. Provincial authority matters: provincial People's Committee where the foreigner will work.

Short guest-instructor trips may touch the day-count exemption (90 days days/year) — still not a lifestyle product. Working without a lawful labour basis risks forced exit or deportation.

Tax

Resident worldwide (yes). Non-resident employment flat 20%. Boat tips and cash side deals with Vietnamese clients do not invent a remote door.

Can I work as a dive instructor in Vietnam on a tourist visa?
No as a product path. Paid instructing for a Vietnam dive centre is Vietnam-employer labour. You generally need a work permit and an LĐ path. This site does not coach tourist-visa instructing.
Who sponsors a dive instructor work permit?
A Vietnam-registered dive centre or resort dive operation. You cannot self-sponsor a work permit. PADI or SSI cards are market credentials — they do not replace labour paper.
Is freelance cash diving legal?
Cash under the table with Vietnam clients is employer-risk labour, not a remote door. Treat it as unlawful until a Vietnam entity sponsors the stack. We do not coach workarounds.
